If you haven’t started yet with working out in the gym, this may sound a bit weird to you. But trust me when I say your chance of succeeding will be higher when you work out with a partner. I don’t base this of scientific researches, studies or anything

else that matter. I can tell you this from personal experience.

Think it was a year or maybe a year and a half ago when I started working out. I started because a close friend of mine asked me to. He recently switched gym and needed a partner so he could not only stay at the same level he was, but improve over time. When he asked me to work out with him, my answer was “sure, why not”. As time passed by I started to realize something. I didn’t notice it right away, but it was noticeable after a while.

The days where my work out partner couldn’t make it, I wasn’t lifting, pushing and pulling as much as before. And he’s been telling me the exact same thing. It might be just the two of us, but working out with a partner indeed has its benefits. Let’s name a couple.

Competition between you and your partner

When you work out alone there is no competition. I don’t mean competition as in pulling a pushing your limbs off, but a healthy competition, where you push your partner and yourself to higher levels. It’s needless to say if you are on your own there is no one to compete with. You won’t be digging down as much when you’re on your own. Having someone there can help you physically and mentally to dig down and finish you’re exercises will help you reach your goals faster.

Doing the exercises as they are supposed to be done

When I’m at the gym, I often see people work out alone. It’s perfectly okay to train on your own, but it’s not as effective as working out with a partner. Anyway, when they are doing their exercises, they often do them slightly different than the exercise is supposed to be done. Let’s say you’re bench pressing. When you’re doing that exercise, the shaft should be in the middle as much as possible. If you’re on your own and the shaft moves slightly to the left or right, you won’t notice it. But even slight movements can lead to muscles not growing symmetric. Having a partner there that watches and corrects you when you’re doing it wrong is, as you can see, almost vital.

Having a partner that supports you both physically and mentally with your journey to lose weight or gain muscle can and will have a positive effect. This entire post is based on personal experiences. And because of that I’d like to know what you think about this subject. Do you think having a work out partner will have a positive effect?
