A recent survey showed that around the globe there are about 15 million smokers that try to stop each day and only 3% of these were successful. As you can see, it’s not easy to stop smoking. If it was that easy, you


wouldn’t be looking for information on how to stop smoking. And I got to be honest with you, I don’t have the answer for you, but I got quite some information that can eventually help you stop smoking.

I’ve talked to some of my friends that stop smoking and I got the same answers over and over again. Most of my friends didn’t join a “stop smoking plan” or followed a diet to get rid of their smoking addiction. They just made up their mind and told themselves it was time to stop and they stopped smoking. It sounds a bit weird saying that, but as you can see, it’s possible to stop smoking just like that.

Prepare yourself, it’s going to be hard

But before stopping just like that, you need to prepare yourself. You need to do some research and realize what the effects of smoking are and what you need to do before stopping Think of buying groceries that reduce the craving, you need to buy some multi vitamins, buy healthy snacks and fill your refrigerator with them. There are quite a few things you need to do before you stop smoking as you can see, but trust me, it’s all worth it at the end.

Don’t wonder how to stop smoking. Tell yourself to stop smoking

Often do I hear people around me saying that they are planning to stop smoking and that they seek help with this process. And every time I hear someone say something like this I get sick to my stomach and say to myself “what a weakling”. If you’ve done a bit of research you can see that smoking causes millions of deaths around the world. It shortens an adult’s lifespan by about 13 to 14 years. It causes dangerous diseases such as lung cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, etc. With every cigarette you smoke you shorten your lifespan. Don’t you think these are reasons to stop smoking? These facts are shocking to me, yet it doesn’t seem to be enough to trigger something in the brain of a smoker and make him or her stop smoking.

So don’t wonder how to stop smoking, just stop. One of the friends that stopped smoking did just that. He did a bit of research, he bought some of the things he’d need and stopped. This isn’t the part where I think: Good man, finally you’ve done it. No, it’s not.

Stay clean and don´t return to your old addiction

The hardest parts of stopping with smoking are the few days and weeks after you´ve smoked your last cigarette. It´s too easy to say “just one wouldn’t make a difference” and that’s where most people fail. Getting back to your old addiction, in this case the smoking, is easy if you don’t watch what you are doing. Every single minute of the day you need to realize that you are working on getting rid of an addiction. Don’t make this harder for yourself then it is. By this I mean, don’t go to bars or restaurants and sit in a smokers section, don’t hang out with friends that don’t support you with your quest to lose your smoking addiction and just smoke near you. Get rid of everything in your house that has to do with smoking. Things such as ashtrays, possible lighters, you’re backup cigarettes (in case you think you’re not going to make it), just anything. This is the part where I say good man, you’ve finally done it. The part where people stay clean and don’t go back to their old addiction.

The moment you realize you can do, you will do it. It’s not impossible to stop smoking. Millions have done it already, and each and every day there are people all over the world that stop smoking. Just remember these 3 fundamental thoughts: Prepare yourself, stop smoking and stay clean.

    It’s especially difficult to stop smoking when you’re going out a lot. I don’t know how things are in the US, but here in Europe you you still got plenty of bars where smokers are still allowed and terrorize just about every non-smoker.

    Like you said in your well written article,… it’s not easy, but it’s possible!

    Nicely written article Umit. Smoking causes about 8 million morbidities in the US alone and thats enough for people to do something about it. I’ve looked quite a lot into it… anyway, i had a good read. Keep it up
