AIDS not a problem you say?
This post is mainly aimed at the people that think aids isnt a serious problem. I’m writing this to help raise awareness of the fact that aids is a serious threat and it’s spreading around fast, real fast. To show how fast it’s spreading, I’ll show you couple figures.
In Uganda 1,6 million people have died since 1982 because of aids. Till 2000, the average death count per year was about 80.000. Just last year (2007) there was a shocking deathcount of 130.000. What does this mean? It means there has been a 62% (aproximately) growth in just 7 years.
Every day, over 6800 persons become infected with HIV and over 5700 persons die from AIDS, mostly because of inadequate access to HIV prevention and treatment services
Estimated number of people living with HIV globally in 1990 = about 7 million. Guess what this number was in 2007? A whooping 33 million. Growth since 1990? Only about 471%.
Estimated number of adult and child deaths due to AIDS globally in 1990 = About 225.000. This number has risen to 2.100.000 in 2007. Luckily this numer is dropping since 2005. Interesting to see here is that 76% occurred in sub-Saharan Africa.
These are just some of the few shocking facts from a research conducted by the World Health Organisation. You can check out the full report at the Worth Health Organisation Website website.
How to prevent aids?
There are a couple of ways to get aids. The 2 most common ways are:
- You are born with it.
- Having unprotected sex with someone who had AIDS.
As you can see, you can do nothing about being born with aids. But people born with AIDS only represent a small percentage of the total AIDS population. The real problem lies within the unprotected sex.
Having unprotected sex is the realy issue and that’s the cause of AIDS spreading this fast. To slow down the rapid spread you could simply (it’s sounds a lot easier then it is) have protected sex. Having protected sex will result a slower growth of infected people and over time it will even result in a decline.
So people. HAVE PROTECTED SEX AND HELP THE WORLD BE A AIDS FREE PLANET!
