It’s Saturday again and this means it time for the post which’s basis is a comment from a reader of this blog. Early this week I got a short comment, yet there is so much information in that short comment. The comment was from Armando Williams and in his comment he said he didn’t know there were so many calories in a pizza and that they should put the calories on the box or something.
I would have never known. They should put the calories on the box or something!
That was Armando’s comment as a result of a pizza which contained a staggering 3600 calories from this post “why you shouldn’t eat at Domino’s Pizza”. This just made clear that some (read most) people don’t know what they are actually taking in. To prevent this, you could do some “research” at home and see what ingredients and calories are in food you usually eat. Doing this can prevent you from eating food which contains too many calories.
Because The New York City Board of Health know people are lazy and won’t do the research on their own, they voted to make the city’s restaurant chains show calorie information on their menus and menu board. They did this to inform the restaurant customers, so that they could make healthier food choices and to reduce the amount of obese people in the city of New York. This new regulation came into force on 31st March 2008. For now the regulation will only be applied to the bigger chains of restaurants, but my guess is that this will spread out and more restaurants are forced to show the calories on their menus and menu boards.
I want to thank Armando Williams of FailureBlogger for his comment and as you can see Armando, things are being done to prevent situations like the one in your comment.

Problem with restaurants and food ingredient transparency often is that they might just not want to give away their recipe
Yet mentioning the calories shouldn’t be much of a big deal. 3600 calories is an insane amount, just for a pizza…
