21% of your daily calorie intake comes from drinks (1). This could be sodas, fruit juices, tea, coffee and so on. For a female this would mean about 400 calories and for a male about 500 calories. Now imagine you’re only drinking water throughout the day, this would mean you taking in 400 (500) calories less daily. If you care about your waistline, don’t only look at what you’re eating, take a look at what you’re drinking as well.
Not only are drinks your diet’s archenemy because they account for 21% of your daily calorie intake, they are also your diets archenemy because they are too easy to consume. Let’s say you have a large latte every morning, this alone is somewhere between 200 and 400 calories depending on what sort of latte it is. If it’s a mocha coffee with cream, that’ll be your 21% for the day. As you can see, drinks can be a big chunk if your calorie intake and if you don’t watch what you’re drinking it could end up bad.
Another reason why drinks are your diet’s archenemy is because drinks don’t give you the same feeling as food. You could drink 1000 calories easily without getting a full feeling. Compare this food and you’ll see the difference. 1000 calories would equal about 11 boiled eggs or 10 pears. Don’t tell me you wouldn’t notice it if you’ve eating 11 boiled eggs or 10 pears.
Drinks are a large chunk of your daily calorie intake and because they are easy to consume and they don’t give you the same “full” feeling as food, it’s your diet’s archenemy. Next time think twice before you drink that latte in the morning and overall, be aware of what you’re drinking.
I’ll do a post about healthy drink replacements very soon, so stay tuned if you want to know what to drink instead of the things you’re drinking at the moment.
