31 Tips that can help you stop smoking

In that post I wrote about 3 thoughts that were important if you wanted to stop smoking. Those were: Prepare yourself, don’t wonder and stay clean. In this post I’ll list a number of tips that can help you stop smoking. Enjoy reading the post and I hope it helps some people quit.


  1. Set a date for stopping!
  2. Be positive and try to escape aggression
  3. Adopt ‘never to say die’ attitude
  4. Take one day at a time. Each day without a cigarette is good news for your health
  5. Before you stop, don’t be afraid to ask for help
  6. Be more active. Go for a walk instead of driving or taking the bus.
  7. Exercise, it will help you relax and boosts your morale.
  8. Enroll yourself in gym.
  9. Ask family and friends not to smoke around you
  10. Avoid people who smoke. Spend more time with non-smoking friends
  11. Wash your clothes to get rid of the smell of smoke
  12. Don’t skip meals
  13. Drink plenty of fluids
  14. Don’t carry around cigarettes
  15. Avoid the shops where you usually buy cigarettes
  16. Write a list of the reasons why you want to stop
  17. Be prepared for some withdrawal symptoms
  18. Get rid of ashtrays, lighters, and all cigarettes
  19. Tell everyone that you are giving up smoking
  20. Anticipate a cough, it’s quite common
  21. Ease withdrawal symptoms with nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)
  22. Change your surroundings when the urge to smoke seizes you
  23. Put something other than a cigarette into your mouth. (gum, carrots, apples etc.)
  24. Visit your dental hygienist and have your teeth cleaned to get rid of tobacco stains
  25. Brush your teeth frequently and use a mouthwash.
  26. Instead of smoking after meals, get up from the table and brush your teeth.
  27. Try to avoid alcohol, coffee and other drinks that you associate with smoking
  28. Try to encourage your partner to quit smoking as well if he or she does smoke
  29. Try to talk on subject other than smoking, enjoy yourself in others company
  30. Never allow yourself to think that ‘one won’t hurt’. It will
  31. Think of the savings and the treats!
