Not so long ago I wrote a post called: Want to know how to stop smoking? In that post I wrote about 3 thoughts that were important if you wanted to stop smoking. Those were: Prepare yourself, don’t wonder and stay clean. In this post I’ll list a number of tips that can help you stop smoking. Enjoy reading the post and I hope it helps some people quit.
- Set a date for stopping!
- Be positive and try to escape aggression
- Adopt ‘never to say die’ attitude
- Take one day at a time. Each day without a cigarette is good news for your health
- Before you stop, don’t be afraid to ask for help
- Be more active. Go for a walk instead of driving or taking the bus.
- Exercise, it will help you relax and boosts your morale.
- Enroll yourself in gym.
- Ask family and friends not to smoke around you
- Avoid people who smoke. Spend more time with non-smoking friends
- Wash your clothes to get rid of the smell of smoke
- Don’t skip meals
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Don’t carry around cigarettes
- Avoid the shops where you usually buy cigarettes
- Write a list of the reasons why you want to stop
- Be prepared for some withdrawal symptoms
- Get rid of ashtrays, lighters, and all cigarettes
- Tell everyone that you are giving up smoking
- Anticipate a cough, it’s quite common
- Ease withdrawal symptoms with nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)
- Change your surroundings when the urge to smoke seizes you
- Put something other than a cigarette into your mouth. (gum, carrots, apples etc.)
- Visit your dental hygienist and have your teeth cleaned to get rid of tobacco stains
- Brush your teeth frequently and use a mouthwash.
- Instead of smoking after meals, get up from the table and brush your teeth.
- Try to avoid alcohol, coffee and other drinks that you associate with smoking
- Try to encourage your partner to quit smoking as well if he or she does smoke
- Try to talk on subject other than smoking, enjoy yourself in others company
- Never allow yourself to think that ‘one won’t hurt’. It will
- Think of the savings and the treats!
