To start off with. A healthy breakfast should contain at least 500-700 calories, and this can be a bit less for women. It’s a pain in the butt to calculate how much calories you’re consuming, but usually you should be fine reading the packages your breakfast came from. If you’re not sure how much calories are in your food, take a look at this calorie count site. It should help you out most of the time.
Okay, back to what this post is about: What should a healthy breakfast contain.
A healthy breakfast should contain;
- Butter: By consuming a bit of butter during your breakfast you’ll prevent possible gallstones. After a good night sleep, the gall in your body will have thickened and by consuming a bit of butter you’ll stop this process. By a bit of butter I mean something like low-fat cottage cheese or a bit of margarine.
- Glucose: Fruit/Fruit juice contains glucose which is your body’s energy source. It is broken down and absorbed from the carbohydrates you eat. In the morning, after you have gone without food for as long as 12 hours, your glucose levels have dropped. Your body compensates by releasing the glucose that has been stored in your muscle tissue and liver, called glycogen. Once all of the energy from the glycogen stores is used up, your body starts to break down fatty acids to produce the energy it needs. Without carbohydrate, fatty acids are only partially oxidized, which can cause reduced energy levels. So eating breakfast can boost your energy levels as well as your metabolism for the day.
- Protein: Every breakfast should have some proteins in it. And egg white or milk is a great resource for it. There are other resources for it, but egg white and milk are the easiest one to get. You could also eat some cereals with proteins in it. But keep in mind, it should not be more than 30 grams, because that’s the maximum the body can assimilate.
The mentioned above are pretty much what you need to consume to have a healthy breakfast. And just like everything else, moderation is key word.
